Loco for Bak Kwa
Bak kwa (“buck-coo-ah”) has been enjoyed since the 16th century. Its name means ‘barbecued meat’ or ‘roasted charcuterie’ in the Hokkien dialect.
We believe good Bak Kwa should be smoky, savory, sweet and slightly spicy all at the same time. With this mission in mind, we were set to create the best Bak Kwa we know and finally came up with a recipe that satisfied our own foodie craving.
Some has likened Bak Kwa to jerky, but we prefer to call it Southeast Asian charcuterie because unlike jerky, they won't cost you your molar, and they simply taste way better than jerky from your regular gas station.
Hand-made to-order in small batches, Little Red Dot’s methods ensure each piece of these barbecued snack tastes as fresh as the first. All natural ingredients are used, with no preservatives, artificial colorings, artificial flavorings or high-fructose corn syrup.
We love what we do, and we hope you can taste the difference too!
About us
It all started when a bunch of Silicon Valley high-tech geeks developed an overwhelming craving for a taste of their native land. Their insatiable appetite for bak kwa, a Southeast Asian charcuterie originating from Malaysia and Singapore, as well as their inability to find it in this country, led them to roll up their sleeves to concoct their very own version of it.
In January 2011, the five engineers founded Little Red Dot Kitchen, named for the country of Singapore, which is so small that it’s usually denoted on a map as a “little red dot.’
